3 Tb butter
1 sm-med onion, chopped
1 - 1 1/2 pds. ground beef
1 can (28 oz.) stewed tomatoes
2 cans beef consomme
2 cans water
1/2 c. barley4 carrots - chopped
some celery tops chopped
parsley to taste
1/2 tsp. thyme
10 peppercorns (or some pepper)
1 tsp. salt |
Sauté onions in butter, add ground beef. Brown, drain off all the fat.
In a large kettle combine the rest of ingredients. Add the browned ground beef, bring to boil and simmer for 1 hour or more. |
